Taste Café
About This Spot
Stepping into Taste Café, nestled in the heart of Whitehaven’s marketplace, is like finding a familiar nook that feels both welcoming and quietly vibrant. The rhythm here moves at a comfortable pace—not rushed, but never still. It’s a place where the hum of friendly conversation blends seamlessly with the clink of coffee cups and the soft warmth of morning light filtering through the windows.
This café wears its heart on its sleeve through the simplicity and sincerity of its offerings. The atmosphere is unpretentious yet thoughtful, like sitting down with an old friend who’s ready to share a carefully prepared meal. Whether you arrive early enough to soak in the calm before the mid-morning buzz or find yourself in the middle of a lively lunch crowd, there’s an easygoing spirit that invites you to take a moment and enjoy.
Behind the scenes, each plate and cup feels freshly made, reflecting an attentive care that customers appreciate—a spot where large, hearty portions give a sense of genuine hospitality rather than just filling a need. The aroma of fresh coffee lingers, a subtle promise of comfort and familiarity.
The staff here seem to know the delicate balance between being warmly present and giving space, warmly engaging with visitors as they move swiftly yet smoothly during busy times. Conversations and smiles feel natural rather than scripted, making it clear that this is more than just a stop for a quick bite—it’s a small hub where local life quietly unfolds.
For those drawn to honest, homey meals and a little pause in the midst of their day, Taste Café offers a sense of grounded connection—where the everyday act of sharing food becomes something gently memorable.

Very nice and welcoming cafe in the marketplace. Large portions of lovely cooked food and very nice and tasty cakes also the nicest coffee I’ve had in a long while in a local cafe. Recommend 10/10 will visit again.

Cute little cafe with great food and excellent coffee! Absolutely lovely staff, welcoming and attentive, even as it got busy with people putting in morning orders. Highly recommend!!

Had to go to Whitehaven for a hospital visit and this was pretty much the first cafe we found. How lucky we were - we could easily have gone in to a greasy spoon and regretted it. But instead, we had lunch in what is probably the best cafe in Whitehaven! We both had meat pie, peas and gravy with a side of fresh, homemade chips. Absolutely delicious!! Proper Cumbrian portion (read - big!) - pie packed full of gorgeous mince and potatoes drowned in a lovely gravy. So good, I’m sure we’ll day trip again just for lunch! Staff really friendly and not a rip-off pricing.

Popped in while visiting relatives. We had our Labradoodle with us and were immediately made to feel very welcome. Food was amazing, service with smiley faces and friendly attitude, couldn't have asked for more, Thank you to all

Called in for breakfast on the way to the Ravenglass railway. We had found it via reviews on Google and both the food and service never disappointed. A really friendly place, superb staff and the breakfast absolutely gorgeous…them sausages are delicious!! If you want a good full English breakfast , then definitely visit and very reasonable prices aswell, the breakfast in my picture was £8 plus £2 for a large pot of tea. You can request from fresh toms or Tinned. Thanks very much, I’m now full !! Haha
